The shelter homes are constructed under the central government’s Shelter for Urban Homeless Scheme (SUH), which is a part of the Deendayal Antyodaya Yojna-National Urban Livelihoods Mission (DAY-NULM). The scheme is funded by the central and state governments in a ratio of 60:40 in most cases.

The concept of construction of shelter homes for urban homeless is to provide permanent shelters with basic infrastructure facilities like water supply, sanitation, safety and security to the people who do not have a place to live in the cities. The shelter homes are also meant to improve the quality of life and livelihood opportunities of the urban homeless population.

After construction , these shelter homes are given to reputed NGO’s for a period of 4 years for their smooth operation and maintenance. Thereafter, concern Municipal Corporations will operate and maintain these shelter homes.

In Uttar Pradesh State Urban development Agency(SUDA)  has constructed shelter homes with all basic amenities in the various cities. 03 No’s of the constructed shelter homes located at Banda, Mahoba and Shikohabad  are given to UDAAN Society by SUDA for smooth operation maintenance and its management.
